Giorgos Chatzimarkos

George Chatzimarkos was born in Rhodes on June 9, 1965. In 1982 he was admitted to the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, from which he left to work in the family business. In 1997 he was involved for the first time in the public by running in the elections of the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, being elected first in crosses of preference in the Professional Department of the Chamber and then was elected Financial Supervisor in the five-member Administrative Committee. In 2001 he was re-elected first in preference crosses and then in the position of Vice President of the Administrative Committee of the Dodecanese Chamber. In 2006 he ran for President of the Dodecanese Chamber, where he was elected independently. He served as President of the Dodecanese Chamber from June 2006 until December 31, 2010, when he chose to leave due to the beginning of his term in the Municipal Council of the unified Municipality of Rhodes. From 2006 to 2011 he was vice president of the Dodecanese Scholarship Foundation. From 2006 to 2011 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Development Company of the Central Union of Chambers of Greece. From 2006 until today he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Organization for the Promotion of Rhodes Tourism. From 2000 to 2006 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the development company DETAP (Dodecanese Development and Progress Company) and from 2006 to 2010 Chairman of its Board of Directors. In 2009 he represented Greece as a member of its 24-member delegation at the first meeting of the European Parliament of Enterprises. He is the Managing Director of two Societes Anonymes, a company providing services in the field of maritime transport and an import-trading company.
